The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate for the month of May 2014 remained the same at 6.3%.
The agency also reported that the number of people (9.8 million) unemployed, the labor-force participation rate (62.8%), and the number of people (3.4 million) who were unemployed for long terms remained the same.
The number of jobs increased by 217,000 and the industry with the most jobs added was professional and business services (55,000).
The Bureau of Labor Statistics also reported that there were job increases in health care (34,000), social services (21,000), food services and drinking places (32,000), plus transportation and warehousing (16,000).
According to the White House, the increase in jobs brings the total number of jobs added to the economy to 9.4 million.
